Alexander Maslyakov, a prominent figure in Russian television, has passed away at the age of 82, as reported by the KVN press service. The exact cause of his death has not been disclosed. Known for his charisma and wit, Maslyakov hosted the popular television show “KVN” since 1964, becoming a symbol of humor and satire in Russia and beyond.

According to the KVN statement, “He was and will always remain a legend for all participants of the KVN movement and millions of viewers.”

Decline in Health: Last Months of Alexander Maslyakov

Reports from the Telegram channel Shot revealed that Maslyakov had been in poor health for the last six months. He reportedly struggled to speak and had difficulty breathing. Shot also claimed that the cause of his death was lung cancer. Eight months ago, doctors indicated that his condition was inoperable and that further treatment would be ineffective. His situation was further complicated by the aftermath of COVID-19, which he had contracted twice. In recent months, he was seen moving around in a golf cart, accompanied by security.

Alexander Maslyakov’s Early Life and Career

Alexander Maslyakov was born on November 24, 1941, in Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg), Russia. He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Transport Engineers and later attended higher courses for television professionals. His journey in television began in 1964 when, as a fourth-year student, he joined the main editorial office for youth programs.

Throughout his illustrious career, Maslyakov hosted a number of shows, including “Hello, We Are Looking for Talents!”, “Cheerful Guys,” “12th Floor,” “Song of the Year,” and “Alexander Show.” Notably, he was the first host of the popular quiz show “What? Where? When?”

The Iconic Host of KVN

Maslyakov became the permanent host of KVN (Club of the Cheerful and Resourceful) in 1965. In March 1990, he and his wife, Svetlana, founded the “Creative Television Association AMiK,” which owns the KVN brand. KVN has been a staple of Russian humor and culture, influencing generations of comedians and entertainers.

Maslyakov’s Final Years and Legacy

Maslyakov hosted his last KVN game in 2022. In April 2024, the Telegram channel Mash reported that he was stepping away from KVN due to the inoperable lung tumor, diagnosed in 2022 after battling COVID-19. His departure marked the end of an era for Russian television.

Alexander Maslyakov’s contribution to Russian entertainment is unparalleled. He will always be remembered as a legendary figure who brought humor and joy to millions of viewers across Russia and the world. His legacy as the face of KVN and a pioneer of Russian television will endure for generations to come.
