A historic step towards regional connectivity was achieved as the investment agreement for the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway was signed in the Yntymak-Ordo building of the Presidential Administration, according to the Cabinet of Ministers.
The agreement was signed by Kyrgyz Minister of Transport and Communications Absattar Syrgabaev and Zhong Shenggui, Chairman of the Board of Directors of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway Company LLC.
The ambitious railway construction is set to begin on December 27, 2024, marking a milestone in infrastructure development across Central Asia.
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Agriculture Bakyt Torobaev highlighted the significance of the event, calling it a “historic day” for Kyrgyzstan, China, and Uzbekistan. He emphasized that the agreement signifies the transition from lengthy negotiations to the practical phase of designing, constructing, financing, operating, and maintaining the large-scale project.
“This railway project is not just an infrastructural milestone but a cornerstone for regional and international connectivity,” Torobaev noted.
The signing ceremony saw participation from high-level delegations from China and Uzbekistan, led by Li Baojie, Chargé d’Affaires of China in the Kyrgyz Republic, and Saidikram Iyazkhodjaev, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan.
The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project is expected to boost trade, enhance economic ties, and improve transportation networks across the three nations, setting a new benchmark for collaborative regional development.
