Turkmenistan boosts gas supplies to Uzbekistan

Turkmenistan plans to enhance gas supplies to Uzbekistan, with trade turnover in natural and artificial gas reaching $1.8 billion in 2024.

Turkmenistan is poised to increase its natural gas supplies to Uzbekistan, signaling a strengthened energy partnership between the two nations.

This development emerged following a telephonic discussion between Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Turkmenistan’s People’s Council Chairman Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Both leaders emphasized the seamless collaboration in the gas sector and reiterated their commitment to pursuing long-term energy projects.

Key projects are on the horizon, promising to deepen bilateral ties and bolster energy security.

Trade Turnover Soars

From January to October 2024, Uzbekistan’s trade turnover in natural and artificial gas surged to $1.8 billion. This marks an impressive 80% increase compared to $1 billion recorded during the same period in 2023.

Gas Exports and Imports

Uzbekistan exported natural and artificial gas worth $540.4 million within the first ten months of 2024. On the import side, the nation acquired gas supplies totaling $1.3 billion, underscoring its reliance on regional energy partnerships.

This collaboration highlights the strategic role of Turkmenistan’s gas supplies in fueling Uzbekistan’s growing energy demands while fostering economic cooperation in Central Asia.
