Uzbekistan is looking forward to the potential resumption of flights by German airline Lufthansa, a crucial development for the country’s transportation and aviation sector. Ilkhom Makhkamov, the Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan, expressed his hopes for the swift restoration of Lufthansa services to Uzbekistan during a meeting with Germany’s newly appointed Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Manfred Huterer.

The meeting between the two officials was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen ties between Uzbekistan and Germany, with transportation being a focal point of their discussions. The Minister and Ambassador reviewed past achievements and laid out future plans aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two nations.

A key point of discussion was Uzbekistan’s existing partnerships with several major German transportation companies. Minister Makhkamov highlighted fruitful collaborations with companies like Rhenus, Deutsche Bahn, DB Engineering & Consulting, DB Schenker, and others. These partnerships have played an essential role in modernizing Uzbekistan’s transport and logistics infrastructure, contributing to the country’s economic growth and regional connectivity.

The officials also exchanged views on advancing cooperation in the fields of transport and logistics, recognizing the importance of efficient networks for enhancing trade and business relations between the two nations. The resumption of Lufthansa flights would be a significant step toward bolstering Uzbekistan’s position as a strategic hub for both air and land transportation.

Lufthansa’s history in Uzbekistan dates back to 1993, when the airline first launched the “Frankfurt – Tashkent – Frankfurt” route. The service played a key role in connecting Uzbekistan with Europe. However, the flights were suspended in 2001 due to a sharp decline in passenger traffic, which fell by 20-25 percent at the time. Since then, efforts have been underway to restore these important air links.

Restoring Lufthansa’s flights to Tashkent would be a major milestone in Uzbekistan’s efforts to reintegrate itself into global aviation networks, providing travelers and businesses with better access to European markets.

This development underscores Uzbekistan’s commitment to enhancing its international transport links and solidifying its status as a key player in Central Asian logistics and transportation. With the resumption of Lufthansa flights, Uzbekistan would be better positioned to foster international trade, tourism, and economic collaboration with Europe.
