Uzbekistan’s Olympic Triumph: 13 Medals in Paris Games

Uzbekistan’s Olympic team returns from Paris with 13 medals, ranking 13th globally. A grand welcome awaits at Tashkent airport on August 12.

The national Olympic team of Uzbekistan is set to return to Tashkent on the afternoon of August 12, after a historic performance at the Summer Olympic Games in Paris. This year’s Olympics marked a significant achievement for Uzbekistan, with the team securing an impressive total of 13 medals, including 8 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze.

Uzbekistan’s remarkable performance at the Paris Olympics has placed the nation 13th in the overall medal rankings, a notable improvement from previous Olympic Games. The 2024 Games in Paris have now become the most successful in Uzbekistan’s Olympic history, surpassing their previous best performance in the 2016 Rio Olympics, where they finished 21st in the medal tally.

Several athletes played key roles in bringing gold to Uzbekistan. Boxers Hasanboy Dosmatov, Asadkhoja Moydinkhojaev, Lazizbek Mullojhonov, Abdumalik Halokov, and Bahadir Jalolov all clinched gold medals, showcasing Uzbekistan’s dominance in boxing. Additionally, Uzbekistan secured gold in judo, with Diora Keldiyorova’s outstanding performance, taekwondo, where Ulugbek Rashidov shone, and freestyle wrestling, thanks to Razambek Jamalov’s victory.

In addition to their gold medals, Uzbek athletes also brought home silver and bronze medals, further solidifying their standing on the world stage. Weightlifter Akbar Joraev and taekwondo athlete Svetlana Osipova won silver medals, while judo competitors Muzaffarbek Toraboev and Alisher Yusupov added to the silver medal count. Freestyle wrestler Gulomjon Abdullaev earned a bronze medal, adding to the country’s impressive tally.

Uzbekistan’s success at the Paris Olympics is not just a national achievement but also a regional one. Uzbekistan emerged as the leading country among the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), as well as Turkish and Muslim-majority nations, in terms of the number of medals won.

The national Olympic team will receive a ceremonial welcome upon their return to Tashkent. The ceremony, set to take place at the 3rd terminal of Tashkent International Airport, will celebrate the athletes’ incredible achievements and the pride they have brought to their nation. As the country eagerly awaits their return, the Olympic team’s success will be remembered as a milestone in Uzbekistan’s sports history.
