Uzbekistan has officially joined the Global Alliance to Combat Hunger and Poverty, a move that underscores its dedication to tackling critical global issues like food insecurity, poverty, and inequality. This membership aligns with the nation’s broader efforts to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and strengthens its collaboration with other countries to enhance food security.

By joining the alliance, Uzbekistan will benefit from access to international expertise, funding opportunities, and partnerships for joint programs addressing hunger and poverty. This global platform enables member countries to share knowledge, attract investments, and implement effective strategies for reducing inequality and improving livelihoods.

Globally, over 100 nations are part of this initiative, signaling a unified commitment to combating hunger and poverty.

Earlier this year, on October 9, the United States made a significant contribution to Uzbekistan’s efforts by delivering 131 tons of food aid through USAID. This package, valued at more than $435,000, consists of vegetables and legumes aimed at supporting over 33,000 individuals across 145 facilities, including tuberculosis centers, orphanages, and psychiatric institutions.

Anjali Kaur, deputy assistant administrator of USAID’s Bureau for Asia, emphasized the importance of such partnerships. “At USAID, we collaborate with our partners to deliver life-saving food assistance to the most vulnerable communities in Uzbekistan. By addressing malnutrition and ensuring access to adequate, safe, and nutritious food, we empower individuals to lead healthy, productive lives and build a more stable and resilient world for everyone,” she stated.
