Turkmenistan and Philippines Hold High-Level Consultations

Turkmenistan and the Philippines held political consultations in Manila, enhancing bilateral cooperation in various sectors.

The Foreign Ministries of Turkmenistan and the Philippines recently conducted political consultations in Manila, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations. The meeting, reported by the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, brought together key diplomatic figures from both nations to discuss a wide range of collaborative opportunities.

The Turkmen delegation was led by Ahmet Gurbanov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, while the Philippine side was headed by Maria Teresa Lazaro, Undersecretary for Bilateral Relations and ASEAN Affairs. The discussions spanned various crucial aspects of the bilateral agenda, including political-diplomatic cooperation, trade, economic partnership, and cultural-humanitarian ties, all aimed at enhancing practical collaboration.

Strengthening Diplomatic and Economic Ties

During the consultations, both parties exchanged views on regional and international issues, underscoring the importance of maintaining regular high-level contacts to boost bilateral cooperation. A significant focus was placed on parliamentary diplomacy, with shared views on intensifying inter-parliamentary dialogue.

The diplomats expressed readiness to advance cooperation in vital sectors such as energy, transport and logistics, and agriculture. A detailed analysis of the current trade cooperation was conducted, with discussions on the import and export potential of both countries. The talks also addressed the legal framework of cooperation, proposing its expansion to facilitate smoother bilateral interactions.

Cultural and Humanitarian Cooperation

The importance of relations in the humanitarian and cultural spheres was highlighted as a key factor in bringing the peoples of Turkmenistan and the Philippines closer. The discussions emphasized that these areas are integral to the overall bilateral relationship, fostering mutual understanding and respect.

On the same day, Deputy Minister Gurbanov met with Enrique Manalo, Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Philippines. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying cooperation across various domains, with a particular focus on trade, economic, and humanitarian ties, as well as enhancing the legal framework governing their relations.

Memorandum of Understanding Signed

The consultations concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines on Political Consultations. This memorandum lays the foundation for ongoing and future dialogue and cooperation between the two countries.

In addition to these high-level talks, the Turkmen delegation also met with Jude Aguliar, Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Philippines. Both parties acknowledged the strong and friendly partnership between Turkmenistan and the Philippines, rooted in mutual respect, trust, and equality. They expressed confidence in further strengthening interstate relations and enhancing collaborative efforts in various sectors.

The visit of the Turkmen delegation to the Philippines is ongoing, with continued discussions and meetings aimed at deepening the bilateral relationship and exploring new avenues for cooperation.
