Uzbeks and Kazakhs have emerged as enthusiastic users of online educational services, according to the Global Skills Report 2024 by Coursera, a leading online learning platform. The report places Uzbekistan at the top globally for online learners as a percentage of the workforce, while Kazakhstan secures the 18th spot.
Coursera’s data reveals that approximately 6.25% of Uzbek workers are actively using its online educational services to enhance their skills. In Kazakhstan, the figure stands at just over 1%. These courses aim to equip individuals with the ability to adapt to changing labor market demands, fostering career advancement opportunities.
The surge in Uzbekistan’s engagement with online learning aligns with the government’s strategic efforts to upgrade workforce capabilities. A key focus has been training labor migrants for skilled roles in Europe and the Middle East, moving away from unskilled jobs in Russia. Agreements signed in 2024 have created quotas for Uzbek workers in countries like Germany, Slovakia, and the UK, driving demand for skill development.
Despite their enthusiasm, the report highlights gaps in skill proficiency among Uzbek learners. Areas like accounting, communication, statistics, and programming remain challenges, indicating room for improvement.
Globally, Coursera boasts over 148 million users, offering courses from more than 300 universities and companies. With this extensive reach, the platform is shaping the future of online educational services, providing opportunities to bridge skill gaps and empower professionals worldwide.
