Fan Invasion Disrupts Olympic Opener, Argentina Falls 2-1

The Olympic football match between Argentina and Morocco was interrupted by a fan invasion, causing Argentina to lose 2-1.

A fan invasion during the opening match of the Olympic football tournament between Argentina and Morocco on Wednesday caused chaos, leading to Argentina’s 2-1 defeat following a VAR review.

Cristian Medina of Argentina initially scored in injury time, seemingly securing a 2-2 draw. However, the goal was disallowed after a VAR review two hours post-suspension, with the teams playing the final minutes in an empty stadium.

The match in Saint-Etienne was suspended due to the fan invasion, with officials deciding to resume play later in the evening. Despite a lineup featuring recent Copa America winners, Argentina struggled. Morocco’s Soufiane Rahimi scored twice, with Giuliano Simeone netting once for Argentina. The chaotic interruption involved fans storming the pitch and throwing objects.

In another Group C match, Spain defeated Uzbekistan 2-1. Marc Pubill and Sergio Gomez scored for Spain, while Eldor Shomurodov netted for Uzbekistan.
