On August 9, strong winds toppled 57 trees across Bishkek. Municipal services are working intensively to clear debris and assess the damage.

Strong winds swept through Bishkek on August 9, causing significant damage across the city. The mayor’s office reported that 57 trees were uprooted or broken by the winds, affecting multiple districts. The most affected areas were Leninsky, Pervomaysky, Oktyabrsky, and Sverdlovsky districts, with each experiencing substantial tree falls.

Specifically, 18 trees fell in the Leninsky district, 16 in Pervomaysky, 15 in Oktyabrsky, and 8 in the Sverdlovsky district. The city’s municipal enterprises, “Bishkekzelenstroy” and “Tazalyk,” were promptly directed to manage the cleanup operations. Currently, 18 units of specialized equipment have been deployed to clear the debris and ensure public safety. These teams are working intensively to remove the fallen trees and restore normalcy in the affected areas.

In addition to the cleanup, the authorities are assessing the extent of the damage caused by the winds. The fallen trees have impacted roadways, public spaces, and possibly private properties, leading to a coordinated response from municipal services.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by urban areas in dealing with unexpected weather events. The swift response by the city’s municipal services underscores the importance of preparedness in minimizing disruptions caused by such natural occurrences.
