Over 70% of Uzbekistan’s apartment buildings were constructed before 1991, with over 1,000 requiring technical inspections and 223 deemed seismically vulnerable, according to Podrobno.uz.
This information comes from a draft law by the Ministry of Justice focused on urban renovation. The draft highlights that, of the 42,000 apartment buildings in the nation, 30,800 (73%) predate 1991.
The government is set to launch a nationwide housing renovation project aimed at updating residences and enhancing building safety.
The draft law stresses the importance of improving energy efficiency, expanding green spaces, modernizing architecture, and either removing or rebuilding outdated and unsafe structures.
