Uzbekistan Elections 2024: Uzbekistan’s elections in 2024 are poised to be a historic event, with crucial steps already being taken to ensure their success. A significant milestone was achieved recently in the Surkhandarya region, where district election commissions have been formed to oversee the election process for the regional Councils of People’s Deputies.

Formation of District Election Commissions

At a meeting chaired by Zebuniso Alimardonova, Chairperson of the Territorial Election Commission of Surkhandarya, the focus was on finalizing district election commissions for the upcoming Uzbekistan elections 2024. These commissions will be responsible for organizing and managing the election proceedings at the district level, ensuring transparency and proper adherence to the electoral code.

The commissions consist of a chairman, a deputy, a secretary, and 6-8 members nominated by the city and district Councils of People’s Deputies. This structure has been designed to guarantee fair representation and smooth execution of tasks throughout the election.

Among the 478 members approved across various districts, 383 have previous election experience, while 95 are newcomers, bringing fresh perspectives to the election management process. The candidate pool is diverse, with representation from several sectors:

  • Public Education: 247 members
  • Higher Education: 17 members
  • State Bodies: 100 members
  • Local Government: 51 members
  • Public Organizations: 29 members
  • Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs): 13 members

This diversity is intended to ensure that the commissions are well-rounded, with a mix of experienced individuals and new participants offering innovative ideas.

Gender Balance and Professional Backgrounds

Gender representation has been a focal point, with 190 out of the 478 candidates being women. This aligns with Uzbekistan’s broader commitment to fostering gender equality in political participation.
